According to Wikipedia:
"Modern art includes artistic work produced during the period extending roughly from the 1860s to the 1970s, and denotes the styles and philosophy of the art produced during that era"
This is interesting since a google search for "modern decor" comes back with elegant, new looking furniture and design images. So why has modern art not evolved to match our perception of modern decor? Contemporary art seems to be the official category of what we think modern art is, but MODERN sounds better. This of course is just our opinion, but...if you want something done "POPPIN" you gotta do it yourself!
Take condos for instance. They're all the craze now, and when you look inside of one, they're new and sleek and feel like they belong in 2020. Nothing like the house you were most likely raised in, crammed to accommodate decades of memories and accumulated junk that you could very well lose an arm for by misplacing.
Well at Poppin Picasso, our aim is to embody the reality of "modern" in present day. Although we also make really nice stylistic abstraction pieces, we also set out to make simple, sleek pieces while maintaining a bold affect in your room.
From our perspective, it's about time this era has a specific artistic look to it - which should also fit perfectly into the landscape of modern decor. Every era in the past had a feel to it, and it's about time ours got a feel of its own. An easily distinguishable look that ties us into this modern time we live in. Poppin Picasso is that look!
The term POPPIN for us really signifies mature coolness. You may have noticed from our previous post that we don't care much for prints. They're fine I suppose, but for the most part, they come off as immature decor. Again this is OUR opinion.
When you're 20, a Scarface print may impress your friends in your newly rented apartment, but it doesn't grow with you. A Poppin Picasso however does, and you'll be touted with sophistication in the minds of those who come over (even if they don't explicitly say it).
It also helps that you'll have a direct answer when they ask "What is that?".
Ultimately, art is subjective and what you like is what you like. We'll always be here though, creating modern and creative gems, knowing that #YouCanBePoppinToo
